Quick Note....

I think many thanks go to John Shearer for organizing this event and to the lifeguards for their logistical support and participation. I was very impressed with how everybody went about making this whole thing happen.  This was my first time at an event like this and I was not only impressed but had a good time as well.  For more info, pics, etc. go here.

Places to Stay...

Arco Iris - very nice, elegant, on the beach, a little pricy - Phone: 011-52-958-214-94 E-mail: arcoiris@antequera.com
Acuario - Bungalows and Cabanas - clean, rooms only, reasonable, on the beach
Casa de Dan y Carmen - Great place, very friendly and helpful, reasonable price with frig and stove.  150 yards from beach, quiet, awesome view and atmosphere.  Can't say enough nice things about it.  God I love that hammock...

Place to stay away from...

Hotel Las Olas - On the beach and reasonable price but extremely UNfriendly.  Something doesn't work, like fans, etc., you're unhappy, too bad, they couldn't care less.  Most unfriendly greeting I've ever received anywhere and taken advantage of on the dollar exchange to boot.  Stayed one day and left in a hurry.

Tips...

Photos - Guys name is Rueben Pina and he is located in the surf shop next to the only money exchange house on the street behind the central lifeguard tower.  He speaks english better than me and hits the beach about 7 in the morning for about 1-11/2 hours.  Ask him to take some shots and you can pick them up in the afternoon.  Contact him...
Food - El Cafecito, and Mangos on the beach as well as a small Italian place towards the southern end of the strip.  All good and reasonable.  Don't try to eat Sushi, or Pizza.  They taste different and not what your accustomed to.  Ditto with hamburgers but those are not bad.  If you like peanut butter, relish, or milk you better bring it with you.  I substituted beer for milk without any ill affects, but it doesn't go real well on cereal.  Outdoor market Benito Juarez has good quality fresh produce.
Transportation - cabs are $2 anywhere one way but if you plan your excursions its a cheap way to go and you will definitely need some kind of transport as the town is spread out.
Sights - Daytrips to Manzunte, Huatulco, etc., are about $40 per person but can be had for half price if you just go to the bus station and hop on a bus yourself.
Leaving - always confirm your flight one day in advance as outgoing flights are usually delayed or canceled.  We actually had to take a 2 hour shuttle to Huatulco and catch a plane there instead.  I won't go into the whys, just take my word for it.
Beaches - Main beach Zicatela is not crowded because you can't swim due to dangerous conditions but at north end is a protected cove where you can. I highly recommend you take a collapsible beach umbrella.  The palapa roof shades look real nice but you pay to sit there and if you move to another part of the beach you will pay again.
